What is Mailana?

Mailana is a set of tools for analyzing your email

Created by Pete Warden, Mailana is a web-based set of services for getting more information from your email.

What do I need to use Mailana?

It works by connecting to your Gmail account through the IMAP API offered by Google. So you'll need a Gmail account with IMAP enabled, which should already be true for most accounts.

How do I get started?

Go to the main page and enter your Gmail address and password in the sign-up box.

Why do you need my Google password?

Google won't allow access to your emails for analysis without your password. We have a strict privacy policy, and all of your information is stored securely and none of it will ever be shared with any third-party. We also make it very easy for you to delete your Mailana account and all of the associated information, including your password.

What happens once I've created a Mailana account?

You'll see a page containing several tools. Before you can get any interesting information, Mailana has to copy your emails into its own store. This process can take several minutes, especially if you have a lot of emails. You can see how this is going in the green progress box.

Once your mails have been copied over, you can experiment with the Time Patterns and Social Graph tools to see information about when and who you send mails to.
